Android Custom ROM Xenon HD

Recently I semi-bricked my old Xperia flagship phone. Semi-brick as it still powers ON but Android does not load. After so many trial and error, I was able to boot to custom recovery TWRP and revive the phone! I’m so happy as I now have 2 Android phones that will complement one another. Both will only have data only plans and this Xperia flagship phone will be my backup for VoIP.

Currently I have the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser 1080p (Z00T) and Sony Xperia ZL (Odin). I am looking around for custom ROMs based on Nougat and have substratum OMS support (for themeing support). I want a custom ROM that both exist on Z00T and Odin devices, so that there will only be 1 UI and the looks will be consistent on both.

I’ve settled for Xenon HD. They have stable Nougat builds for Z00T and Odin. They also have alpha builds for Oreo! Since this will be my daily driver, I’ve settled for Nougat.

Here are the steps I did to flash XenonHD on both Z00T and Odin -

  • download the latest Nougat builds from xenonhd.com
  • download the latest pico gapps builds from opengapps.org. Z00T will be ARM64 and Odin will be ARM
  • download the latest TWRP custom recovery from twrp.me
  • download latest beta build of chainfire supersu
  • flash TWRP recovery
  • boot to TWRP recovery
  • wipe system, data, cache
  • flash xenonhd ROM, opengapps and supersu
  • reboot and profit!
