Rebuilding My Homelab Environment

With the recent release of RHEL 8.0 Beta, I decided to break and rebuild my homelab environment. RHEL 8.0 will be a new beast to tackle and be familiar with, and since my RHCSA certficate is valid until Mar 2021, it will be a good way to practice and prepare when it comes to recertification. I also need to do this to refresh my knowledge and not be stagnant.

I already have the foundation of my lab up and running - VMware ESXi 6.5 and vCenter 6.7. I won’t touch those anymore and just focus on deploying CentOS VMs and running multiple services.

This is my end goal for this project -

  • spacewalk for repo management and automated kickstart installations

  • DNS for domain resolution and adblocking / content filtering. completed here.

  • rebuild web server for hosting ryanrudolfoba.com

  • LDAP for centralized authentication

  • ansible for automation

  • rebuild asterisk VoIP server

  • rebuild plex media server

  • several CentOS VMs for day to day practice

This should keep me busy for several days with the process of rebuilding and documenting things as I go along. I will also update this page for progress and if I need to add something new to the list.
